Loss & Grief

You
You will experience some grief and loss. You will have lost your freedom and retirement plans. Finances may be a struggle and you may become somewhat isolated from your friends. You will have a normal grief response to these abnormal situations.

You may grieve the fact that your child cannot care for its own child and that you now have to do it. This maybe due to many reasons: illness, death, imprisonment, mental health issues, drug and alcohol issues or disability. There may also be a level of conflict in the situation. Each of these reason will bring a set of complex emotions to work through. Getting some professional help and support may help to resolve some of these situations.

Your Grandchild
Your Grandchild will have lost much in coming to live you, including their parents and things that are familiar. They may be safer and happier with you but they will still grieve for their parents and their ideal family. Patience and understanding will be required to manage both your own and your grandchild's grief.
