Self Care

What?
Self-care is looking after yourself. This will look different for each and every person. For some it might be working in the garden, reading a book, coffee with friends, chasing steam trains, working on the car or a million other things. Work out what you need to do to look after yourself and do it!

Primary relationships
Life partnerships and friendships need to be given careful attention at these stressful times in our lives and these relationships need to be tended and nurtured, as they are our link to sanity and peace. Sometimes it is helpful to get a third person to help you work out the changes that have taken place due to changing roles and responsibilities. Relationships Australia can provide this service.

When?
When we are caring for children and young people, it is easy to focus on meeting their needs and not looking after ourselves. We need to be looking after ourselves NOW, right now! Looking after our needs for timeout, recreation, friendship, relaxation, and relationship is the most important thing we can do for our grandchildren in the long-term.

Why?
If your grandchildren see you looking after yourself well, it will substantially reduce their anxiety that something bad will happen to you.
